Christian and Conservative news hand-curated the way it’s supposed to be. Stay full-MAGA despite the so-called “civil war” waged by the Islam-loving “woke right”.

In this RedState article, Ward Clark argues that President Trump’s tariff policies are helping revive American steel production while sharply reducing dependence on foreign steel.

  • Clark frames steel as a strategic material essential to modern life, used in everything from cars and aircraft to everyday household products.
  • The article points to recent data showing U.S. steel imports were up slightly in April from March, but still down about 30% year-to-date compared with the same period last year.
  • April steel imports reportedly reached 1.87 million net tons, including 1.38 million net tons of finished steel.
  • The largest steel suppliers to the U.S. in April were South Korea, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Vietnam.
  • From January through April, steel imports totaled 6.97 million net tons, compared with 9.89 million net tons during the same period the previous year.
  • Clark cites industry commentary arguing that Section 232 tariffs are “working as intended” by discouraging imports and supporting domestic production.
  • Domestic steel output has reportedly increased by nearly 5 million tons since the start of 2025, which Clark notes is roughly a 6% gain against annual U.S. production of about 80 million tons.
  • The article also says U.S. manufacturers have processed 38.93 million net tons of raw steel since January, up 6.8% from the same period a year ago.
  • Clark concludes that increased domestic steel production matters not only economically, but strategically, because America needs reliable domestic supplies of steel, energy, rare earths, and other key materials.
