Who Owns the Media? There Are 6 Monolithic Corporations That Control Almost Everything We Watch, Hear and Read

Discern Report

(The Economic Collapse Blog)—We live in a society that is literally addicted to consuming media content.  Unfortunately, control of that content is dominated by just a handful of ultra-powerful corporations.  Back in 1983, the media industry was controlled by a group of about 50 large companies.  Today, the media industry is controlled by just 6 gigantic corporations.  They own television networks, streaming services, cable channels, movie studios, newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, music labels and even many of our favorite websites.

Sadly, most of us don’t ever stop to think about who is feeding us the endless hours of news, sports and entertainment that we constantly ingest.  But we should.  The truth is that each of us is tremendously influenced by the messages that are constantly being poured into our heads.  We are addicted to the “programming”, and we just keep coming back for more.  Most of us spend multiple hours each day consuming media content, and many of us actually begin to feel physically uncomfortable if we go too long without watching or listening to something.

The six corporations that collectively control the media industry are Disney, Time Warner, National Amusements, News Corporation, Comcast and Sony.  Collectively, the “big six” absolutely dominate news and entertainment in the United States.  If the “big six” were a country, they would have the 26th largest GDP in the world.  But even those areas of the media that the “big six” do not completely control are becoming increasingly concentrated.  For example, iHeartMedia now owns over 1,200 radio stations in the United States, and companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook are increasingly dominating the Internet.

When you control what Americans watch, hear and read, you acquire a great deal of influence over what they think.

The content that they produce for us is called “programming” for a reason.

The power to shape our culture is the power to alter the future of our society.  We have witnessed seismic cultural shifts in recent decades, and the media industry has been the driving force behind many of those shifts.

These gigantic media conglomerates are much larger than most people realize.  Below, I have listed just a sampling of some of the media properties that are owned and controlled by the “big six”…

Big tech companies such as Amazon, Apple and Netflix have started to produce their own content in recent years, but their content is nearly indistinguishable from that produced by the “big six”.

The primary goal of these behemoths is to make money.

So they aren’t going to do anything that will threaten their relationships with their biggest advertisers.  This is one of the reasons why large pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars on advertising.  They realize that executives at these companies will be desperate to keep the gravy train rolling, and so negative coverage of pharmaceutical companies will be almost non-existent.

Fortunately, an increasing number of people are starting to wake up and are realizing that the media industry should not be trusted.

In fact, a Gallup survey that was conducted in October 2024 found that only 31 percent of Americans have a “great deal” or a “fair amount” of confidence in the mainstream media to report the news “fully, accurately and fairly”.

The good news is that as the mainstream media loses credibility, the alternative media is growing.

Americans are starting to look elsewhere for the truth, and that has allowed independent journalists such as myself to flourish.

Ascension Peptides

Of course the establishment has responded by aggressively censoring the alternative media, but now that we have a new administration in Washington that is anti-censorship, hopefully we will see some significant changes.

Every day, we are in a battle for hearts and minds.  Most of the population is still plugged into “the matrix” and still consumes endless hours of “programming” that is produced by the “big six”.  Meanwhile, those of us in the alternative media are desperately trying to get people to wake up and think for themselves.

Sadly, even most people that think that they are “awake” are still being very heavily influenced by movies, television shows and news programs.

The “programming” that they are constantly offering to us is so seductive, and very few are able to break the addiction entirely.

Discover the Freedom of True American Healthcare: Why America First is Revolutionizing Protection for Patriots

America First Healthcare

In a world where government overreach and skyrocketing premiums are squeezing the life out of hardworking Americans, one innovative agency is standing tall for liberty and affordability. Meet America First Healthcare—the private health insurance powerhouse dedicated to putting *you* first.

Founded by entrepreneur Jordan Sarmiento, this isn’t just insurance; it’s a shield for your family’s future, built on the unshakeable belief that private enterprise delivers better results than bureaucratic red tape.

Picture this: Jordan’s own story hits close to home for so many of us. A sudden medical emergency landed him with a staggering $95,000 bill. Under a traditional plan? He’d be buried in debt. But with America First’s patented health insurance, that nightmare shrank to just $500 out-of-pocket. That’s not a fluke—it’s the promise of coverage that works *for you*, from day one.

Breaking Free from the Chains of Conventional Coverage

Let’s face it: The status quo stinks. Marketplace.gov and big-insurance behemoths hit you with sky-high deductibles—thousands you’d have to pay before benefits even kick in—leaving massive holes in your protection. Need a routine mammogram, colonoscopy, or EKG? Good luck without forking over more cash. And don’t get us started on the gaps in dental, vision, or critical illness support when heart attacks, cancer, or kidney failure strike.

America First Healthcare flips the script. As a proud advocate for private solutions over government intervention, they craft custom plans that slash costs by 20% compared to traditional options. We’re talking comprehensive coverage that includes:

  • Preventative and Wellness Care: Physical exams, screenings, and EKGs covered right away—no waiting games.
  • Telemedicine Access: Virtual doctor visits anytime, anywhere, for that peace of mind.
  • Accident and Critical Illness Protection: Real safeguards against life’s curveballs.
  • Add-On Boosts: Dental, vision, disability, and supplemental plans to plug every leak.

Whether you’re an individual stepping off your parents’ plan, a growing family with kids in tow, or a small business owner tired of employee headaches, their tailored approach fits like a glove. Small businesses? Unlock group benefit rates usually reserved for corporate giants—without the red tape.

And for those in-between moments? Short-term insurance steps in as an ultra-affordable bridge, while life insurance ensures your loved ones are never left vulnerable.

Real Americans, Real Wins

Don’t just take our word for it. Thousands of freedom-loving families have already ditched the old system for America First. “Finally, insurance that aligns with our values and actually saves us money,” shares one client. Another raves, “Our small team got big-business perks without the hassle—it’s a game-changer.” These aren’t scripted lines; they’re the voices of patriots who’ve reclaimed control over their health destiny.

Your Move: Secure Your Shield Today

Why settle for less when you can demand better? America First Healthcare isn’t about profits—it’s about powering the American dream with reliable, value-driven protection. Plans are available year-round, no open-enrollment nonsense.

Ready to uncover the gaps in your current setup and lock in savings? Schedule your FREE healthcare review today at America First Healthcare. In under 15 minutes, their experts will map out options that fit your life, your budget, and your principles.

America First isn’t just healthcare—it’s a declaration of independence. Join the movement. Your family’s freedom starts now.

The glaring mistake in all this is omission of Viacom.

To many American are complacent they accept what they hear and see in print as factual. I call them sheeple because the far left has lead them to the slaughter. I run into a few who have the attitude it is what it is! I wonder if they will be able to use their head for something other than to adorn a hat? Wake Up America!!!

This was a very interesting article. Trump needs to sign executive order limiting these companies. They probably all need broken up into much smaller pieces. They control too much. This is bad for America or any other nation. Literally six people could be discussing what will be said across the globe. This is a monopoly it needs destroyed.

What is not mentioned in this article is that these corporations are controlled by even larger corporations like Blackrock , vanguard and schwab who hold vast amounts of shares in these media corporations and dictate what information these corporations disseminate. These are the true power brokers, the wealthiest people in the world who own vast portfolios of stocks in these corporations and control what information or “facts” the people of the world are privey too

are u a coward, or what?

I may have this wrong, but it’s just like calculating dice probabilities

If there are six major media companies as you say ( and that doesn’t include the scumbag censorers in social media, google search, facebook, …), and say six “identity” groups (Jew, white, black, Asian, Muslim, Latino)from which the leaders could be from, what is the probability that all six of these media empires are led and/owned by one ethnic group:

    (1/6)^6= 0.00214 %

Sounds like a corrupt cartel to me, and if you add in the powerful censorship volume by fb, and google the number is lower.

    Ignore the previous comment,

I may have this probability calculation wrong, but it’s just like calculating dice probabilities

If there are six major media companies ( NBC, Warner Bros/CNN, CBS, ABC, Facebook, Google) controlling most of the content, and say six “identity” groups (Jewish, White, Black, Asian, Muslim, Latino)from which the leaders and/or owners could be from, what is the probability that all six of these media empires are led and/or owned by one “identity” group:

    (1/6)^6= 0.00214 %

Sounds like a corrupt cartel to me. You are such a leader🙄 for doing investigative reporting, on this coincidence. But ya know, come on man, media hasn’t been a problem since, like ahh, Joseph Goebbels time

One of the biggest problems I run across are women, usually they just don’t care. Freedom and liberty aren’t high on their list, comfort, safety, security, entertainment, are. As long as they are not bothered and can watch their girly shows, the view and other daytime women hosted shows, they don’t care.

The influence in entertainment media is subtle, but it is ever present. Take alcohol, for instance. Almost every show has scenes where the characters are drinking some form of alcohol, either directly promoted (“Hey, let’s open that bottle we’ve been saving!”) or indirectly promoted (character casually walks over and pours a scotch.) It doesn’t matter day or night, work or at home, or even where the characters go next. Having that drink or two is just part of life, right? When 1/3 of the public does not drink, and the second 3rd only does so occasionally, it is obvious that the omnipresent consumption of alcohol is there to promote you, the viewer, to go grab a cold one. Ditto for all sports programs.

I was watching The Recruit. The Russian female agent the main character is “guarding” is bored. She pressures him to come have sex with her, to stop being so prudish. “It’s just two adults having fun!” He doesn’t take the bait (yet) but the message is clear: have sex with whoever you want, whenever you want, because to not do so makes you weird.

    “Who owns the media?”

Look up “Operation Mockingbird”, and then ask yourself who owns those people.

This article is pointless. Who/controls owns these companies?
