Francesca Hong was supposed to steamroll the Wisconsin Democratic primary. Then Milwaukee happened.

Hong is no moderate. She is a card-carrying Democratic Socialists of America member who once wrote that police “exist to uphold white supremacy” and demanded they be defunded then abolished. She called Thanksgiving a “colonizer holiday” that should have been canceled in 1621. She has talked about abolishing ICE and the U.S. Senate. National progressives like Ilhan Omar and Ro Khanna backed her.
The party machine did not.
But perhaps more telling is that neither Bernie Sanders no Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backed her. She was perfectly aligned with them and they’ve backed every DSA candidate so far, but for some reason they backed off on Hong. Sanders had stuck with Graham Platner until the bitter end so the argument that Hong was too scandal-prone doesn’t float. If Bernie was okay with a Nazi tattoo, he was okay with hating Thanksgiving.
It seems the darlings of the Democratic Socialists didn’t want to tarnish their record knowing Hong was selected to lose.
Outgoing Governor Tony Evers, who had promised to stay neutral, suddenly jumped in hard for Crowley. Other establishment players scrambled. Crowley himself had dropped out earlier, then re-entered with their blessing once it became clear the socialist was running away with the nomination.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? That warning from Jeremiah 17:9 fits the pattern better than any press conference.
