At last, a conservative news aggregator that does not bow to the woke right.
In this The Daily Signal article, Don Palmer argues that the Voter ID Act is a common-sense reform that would secure federal elections by requiring photo identification, providing free IDs for those who need them, and closing the loopholes that enable fraud and noncitizen voting.
- The Voter ID Act (H.R. 9368), sponsored by Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., passed the House Administration Committee on June 24 and has been attached as an amendment to another bill heading to the House Rules Committee.
- The legislation requires voters to present photo ID in federal elections, creates a grant program to provide free IDs for those who cannot afford them, and allows provisional ballots for anyone who forgets their ID.
- Acceptable forms of ID under the bill are limited to a driver’s license, state-issued photo ID with expiration date, U.S. passport, military ID, or tribal ID.
- Americans already must show photo ID to board a plane, open a bank account, or buy beer, making the same requirement at the ballot box a matter of basic common sense.
- Louisiana officials using the SAVE database identified 390 noncitizens on the voter rolls, 79 of whom had voted illegally in at least one election.
- California’s Department of Homeland Security flagged 190,832 potential non-citizens on the state’s voting rolls, while prosecutors have charged individuals for paying homeless people to register and vote.
- Fourteen states and the District of Columbia still impose no voter ID requirement at all, leaving federal elections vulnerable.
- Democratic members of the House Administration Committee denounced the bill as voter suppression, with one representative shouting that Republicans “should lose their job” for supporting it.
- The measure simply gives existing federal law prohibiting noncitizen voting the enforcement tools it currently lacks before the November 2026 midterms.
