In this Breitbart article, staff writers report that a new Economist/YouGov poll finds 43 percent of Americans view communists in the United States as a major or moderate threat.
- The survey, conducted July 17–20, 2026 among 1,602 U.S. adult citizens with a ±3.3 percent margin of error, asked respondents how much of a threat communists in the United States pose today.
- Overall, 18 percent said communists pose a “major” threat and 25 percent said a “moderate” threat, for a combined 43 percent viewing them as at least a moderate danger.
- Another 23 percent considered the threat “minor,” while 33 percent said communists in the U.S. pose no threat at all.
- A majority of Republicans—64 percent—see communists as at least a moderate threat, including 34 percent who call it a major threat.
- Among independents, 15 percent view the threat as major and 25 percent as moderate; among Democrats, only 7 percent see it as major and 22 percent as moderate, while 50 percent say communists pose no threat whatsoever.
- President Trump has repeatedly warned against the infiltration of communism, stating on Independence Day that American warriors did not fight communism abroad only to see it return at home.
- In an exclusive Oval Office interview with Breitbart, Trump said the Democratic Party’s hard left turn is dangerous because history shows that systems of “give away everything” always end in “squalor, crime, and death.”
